Abstract
This work aimed to investigate the effect of various temperatures (30, 25 and 20ºc at 65± 5% R.H. and different type of foods namely Maize (Zea mays L.), Sweet sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L.), Sugar cane (Saccharum Spp.) and artificial diet) on certain biological aspects of Sesamia cretica Led. The results showed that, temperature had a significant effect on the biology of S. cretica. At 25ºc the fecundity was higher, on the other hand the total deposited eggs decreased at lower temperature 20ºc compared with higher ones (25 & 30ºc). The duration of immature stages of S. cretica was significantly influenced by different types of food at various temperatures. Maize (Zea mays L.) was the most favorite type of food for S. cretica where as the fecundity increased and life cycle shortened compared with other types of food i.e., Sweet sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L.), Sugar cane (Saccharum Spp.) and artificial diet.
