Abstract
Sampling of six cantaloupe vaneties namely Ideal, D31• o65, Hilda, War, E81- 013 and Magenta was conducted in summer plantation during two successive prying seasons (2006 and 21:07) to determine the pegs and their associated natural enemies on cantaloupe in ()aim region of Qualyobla Go menace. Two sarnphng techniques were conducted, water traps Med with water and detergent (pit• fall baps) and direct Said observations followed by laboratory examinaton. Two arthropod classes were recorded durtg the present tidy (Insecta and ArachnIda). At the present slave/, there is a complete SySternabC arrangement of orders, suborders, superfarnilles and famines. Frequency of different species, developmental gages, Sites and periods of occurrence were recorded. Insecta was represented by Misty sewn species belonging to twenty one fan ilks of six insect orders, ilemiptera, Letadoptera, Orthopera, Thysanoptera, Nturoptera and Demaptera. Twenty Mempterous species were recorded belonging to 10 families (Ale/To:Mae, Aphididae, Ocadellidae, Margaroddae Lygaeldae, Ftedunidae, Pentatomdae, Pyntiocoridac, Cydruidae and Anthocoridae). Our observations indioshd that BerniSia tato& Genn. was the most abundant and major pest Westing cantaloupe. High populations were recorded for Gertragnatus guttanenus tam. (rant Ocadellidae), Retnauthereana annutpies Oar. and Hems:tarts laticeps lygaeidse). Moderate popilabons from Nein vridtda L (Fax. PentatonUelae) and Myrus persicae (Sulzer) (Fart AphMldae) were also observed. On the other hand, other Herniptercus speces were found at low levees. All of these speOes considered as pests except two predator species (Cocain aegypbus F., Fteduvisdae and Orals abilpenne (Reuter), Andiocoddae). lepidoptera represented by 7 insect pegs belonging to four famies (Piendae, Noduldae, Nnefinafidae and 1Yeaeladoe). Order Orthoptera In the present survey represented by 5 insect pests belonging to three families (Gtyllotalpidae, Cry lake and Acriddae). Thysanopterans was represented by a serious and destructive peg, Mips tabaci and. and Scolothribs seiunactibtus Hinds. which considered as Predator, and these two specks belonging to family INgidae.
