Abstract
Abstract Egypt as a developing country endeavor to develop its economy through structural adjustment policy. Such policy includes the decrease of deficit in the agricultural trade balance. In other words, the development of Agricultural exports is one of the main issues to develop its economy. Mango crop is one of the important export crops that may contribute to the improvement of agricultural balance of trade. Mexico is the first mango exporting country, it exports about 203..3 thousand tons or about 29.7 % of the total world mango exports. Egypt exports amounted to about 1073 tons during the period 1991 - 2003 . Mango is cultivated, in Egypt, in about 76 thousand feddans, mostly in the governorates of Ismailia, Sharkia and Nubaria region which produced about 42 %, 18.7 % and 12.2 % of the total mango, respectively, during the period 1999 - 2003. They produce about three quarters of total mango production . The study refers that the average export world price of mango per ton was about 624$ (1999 - 2003), while that of Egypt was about 483$ (1999 - 2003). The study found that Lebanon, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Libya, Syria and Bahrain are the most important mango importing countries from Egypt. They import together, about 90.1% of total mango export. The study recommends that mango export to Lebanon and Bahrain may be increased as price per ton exported to these countries is higher than the average mango export price by about 50 % and 35.6 %, respectively.
