Abstract
The Study aimed at identifying the training competencies of the researchers' of some Agricultural Research Center (ARC) institutes using their self assessment, determining the differences between the insti‌tutes training competencies, assessing training needs of the studied in‌stitutes' researchers, determine the differences between the studied in‌stitutes' researchers training needs, and identifying the researchers attitudes towards the training process. The study was conducted using a random sample of researchers (PhD holders) amounted to 162 respondents from 11 research institute of ARC. Data were collected during November and December 2002 using a pre-tested questionnaire. Frequencies, percentages, averages, stan‌dard division, Skewness, F Test, and Duncan's multiple range test were used to analyze the data. The main results of the study revealed that: 1. The average of respondents' self assessment of training needs amounted to 3.06 degree for planning, 3.22 degrees for implementa‌tion and 3.16 degree for evaluation of training competencies. 2. Between 75% and 25% of the respondents reported that they could use PC programs moderately or efficiently, while 213 of them report‌ed low level of using the Internet. 3. Researchers in the research institutes of Animal Production, Plant Pro‌tection, Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Engineering, and Agricul‌tural Extension and Rural Development Research Institute (AERDRI), rated their training competencies higher than other studied institutes. 4. The average of researchers' training needs amounted to 0.51 degree for planning and implementation, and 0.62 degrees for evaluation of training activities. 5. Significant differences were detected at 0.05 level between AERDRI and all other institutes except the Agricultural Engineering Research Institute regarding the training needs. 6. Attitudes of 3/4 of the respondents were moderate, while it was high for the rest.
