Abstract
Studies were carried out to evaluate some alternative carnets to wheat bran and the preferred carriers in the presence of green food plant. berseem, info:him olorandrinum and maze. Zoo mays on the grasshoppers. Euprepecnernis plo-arts *fans and Heteraais &mutest The carriers used in the study were wheat bran• corn hull, bean hay. groundnut husks. berseem hay, wheal hay. rice husks and saw-dust. No significant differences were observed between the four prefe-rential carriers, i.e. wheal bran, bean hay, corn hull and groundnut husks. The descending order of the consumed amount of the carriers in gm. per gm. b.wl. of E. (*rims : Wheat bran> bean lusy>corn hull> groundnut husks> berseem hap rice husks>wheat hay = saw dust. Concerning H. amebas. carriers could be arranged descending.y as follows : corn hull> wheat bran> bean hap groundnut husks> berseem hap wheat hap rice husks> sawdust. However, the grasshopper. H. aN7140$8. consumed less amounts 01 the carriers than the other ono. The grasshoppers ate the preferential carriers in the presence of the green plant berseem, T.. alexendrinum with non significant differences in the case of E. picwans. But, with the grasshopper H. annubsa, sig-nificant differences were existed. In the presence of the green food plant maize, similar results were recorded, but higher amounts were consumed front the carrier and the green plant terse/3m than from maize. Concerning H. ameba the contrary existed. since the insects consumed higher amounts of carriers In the presence of maize than in the presence of berseem, except in the case of groundnut husks. the nymphs ate approximately equal amounts.
