EFFECT OF SALINITY AND GA3 TREATMENTS ON GROWTH AND ALKALOIDAL CONTENT OF LUPINUS TERMIS (FORSK)

Abstract
Pot trials were carried out during 1988/1989 and 1989/1990 at the Medicinal and Aromatio Plants Section, Dokki, Egypt to investigate the effect of four levels of salinity i.e. 0, 1000, 2000 and 3000 ppm, and four levels of GA3 application i.e. 0, 50, 100 and 200 ppm. Inoreasing salinity treatments gradually decreased percentage of seed germination, plant height, number of branches, number of pods, weight of dry pods, seed yield and the alkaloidal content. GA3 did not correct the harmful effect of salinity except plant height which was increased by GA3 treatments. The best treatment for plant height was zero salinity and 100 ppm GA3, whereas the best treatment for other characters was zero salinity and 200 ppm GA3.
