Abstract

Two experiments were conducted in Beheira governorate to study the effect of pheromones and insecticides application, which are used for pink bollworm control on the population density of the red spi‌der mite Tetranychus cucurbitacearum and the predator Onus sp. One of these experiments was carried out in Safasif region to study the effect of time of cultivation under pheromone application. The data revealed that the numbers of mite and its predator were highly affected by time of cultivation and reached their peak around June 20. The other experi‌ment was conducted in Abaadia region to study the effect of 12 differ‌ent insecticide treatments. The data indicated a fluctuation in the re‌sults which might be due to the sensitivity of the mite and its predator to some chemicals, the residulal effect of such chemicals, levels of toler‌ance of the mite and its predator and the time of spray. In the pheromone area, the ratio of the number of the mite to its predator was 51.76, while this ratio in the insecticidal area was 130.07. This demonstrated the drastic effect of insecticides on reducing the number of the predator Onus sp. It was observed that the number of the mite was greater around the border than inside the field, but the number of the predator was about equal inside the field and around the border .
