Abstract
Matruh, Silver Montazah, Mod Island Red and White Leghorn chickens were used in this study. Chicks were weighed; shank and keel length were measured at 8,12 and 16 weeks of age, and body conforma‌tion was estimated at these ages. Silver Montazah chicks were found to have the longest shank and keel for both males, females and average of the two sexes, except for keel length of females at 16 weeks of age where W.L. females had long‌er keel. Silver Montazah chicks recorded the highest estimates for body conformation for the two sexes at all studied ages, except for males and females at 8 weeks of age. For crossbreds, Matrouh x R.I.R. had the longest shank and keel for male chicks at all studied ages, while Silver Mantazah x W.L. female chicks were superior in this respect at all studied ages for shank length, and at 8 and 12 weeks of age only for keel length. R.I.R. x Matrouh fe‌male chicks had longer keel at 12 and 16 weeks of age. For average of the two 'sexes, Silver Montazah x W.L. chicks at 8 and 12 weeks of age and W.L. x Silver Montazah chicks at 16 weeks of age had longer shank, while R.I.R. x Matrouh chicks had longer keel at all studied ages. Mos of the highest estimated values for body conformation of crossbreds were recorded for R.I.R. x Matrouh chicks. Matrouh chicks had the highest dressing percent, while Silver Montazah and the lowest dressing percent, but the differences were not significant. Crosses between R.I.R. and Matrouh had higher dressing per‌cent than those between W.L. and Silver Montazah, and the differences were significant. Positive heterosis existed for shank and keel length in R.I.R. and Matrouh crossbred at all studied ages. On the other hand, there were negative heterosis for Silver Montazah x W.L. male chicks for shank length at 16 weeks of age and for keel length at 8 and 12 weeks of age. For W.L. Silver Montazah chicks, negative heterosis existed for both sex-
