Abstract
The long stapl Egyptian cotton cultivar Giza 75 was used as a material. Three nominal lint cotton grades; Good (8), Fully Good Fair (FGF) and Good Fair (GF) were secured from each of 8 growing localities representing the 8 governorates in which Giza 75 cultivar was grown, in 1990 season . The results of the study indicated that the lower cotton grades were associated with a general tendency of decrease in 2.5% span le‌ngth, length uniformity ratio, micronaire reading and yarn appearance grade. On the other hand, strength and elongation of both fibers and yams did not follow the same trend. Variations, with different magnitudes, in fiber and yarn quality characteristics were found within the same nominal cotton grade se‌cured from different growing localities. Further, for any given fiber or yam property there was a marked overlapping among the ranges of the 3 grades involved in the study, i.e. some lower grades secured from a specific growing locality would reveal better fiber and yam quality char‌acteristics than a higher grade secured from other localities .
