Abstract

Ecological and biological studies were conducted on mites inhabiting fig trees at Barrage district (Qalyobia Governorate)throughout the year 1995. Twelve mite species belonging to ten families were recorded. The two-spotted spider mite, Tetrancychus arabicus Attiah was the most prevalent phytophagous mite species, while Amblyseius swirskii AthiasHenriot seemed to be the common acarine predator. Black Michen variety harboured the greatest T.arabicus density followed by Konadria variety, while Doritto was the least sensitive variety. Black Michen varietty accelerated T.arabicus development and highly favoured the mite oviposition and fecundity than did Doritto variety.
