Abstract

Yield and quality response of two varieties (Giza "7" and Giza "8") to three levels of nitrogen fertilization (45,60 and 75 kg/fed) and three seeding rates (40,50 and 60 kg/fed.) were studied. The main findings may be summarized as follows : Flax cultivers exhibited significant differences in fiber yield, fiber finenesse and fiber percentage, where Giza "7" showed higer values than Giza "8". Fiber yield/plant and /fed., fiber fineness and fiber percentage increased with increase in seed rate up to 60kg/fed. Opposite results were obtained with regard to number of capsules/plant, oil percentage, acid value and refractive index. The results indicated that, the highest values of fiber yield and quality, seed oil yield as well as their components and oil properties were obtained by adding 75 kg N/fed. The interaction effect between varie‌ties and nitrogen levels on seed yield I plant was significant.
