Abstract

In Egypt, the powder post beetle, Enneaclesmus trispinosus Olivier (Coleoptera : Bostrichidae) is a harmful pest to the midrib of date palm leaves. The description, behaviour and duration of each stage with the total life-cycle and annual generations were studied. The egg, larval, pupal and adult stages lasted 7-14, 85-288, 10-18 and 13-39 days, respectively. The respective pre-oviposition, oviposition and postoviposition periods were 8-13, 2-25 and 0-6 days and the female laid 439 eggs. The total life-cycle was completed in 118-302 days, and female laid 4-302 days, and accordingly, the pestglhost probably undergoes two overlapping generations each year.
