Abstract
This study was carried out to investigate growth performances of Tilapia nilotica fingerlings as a result of using three different stocking densities under Egyptian conditions. Fish was stocked at three rates of 3000 (SD.,) 4500 (SD2), and 6000 (SD3) fish/feddan at the Central Lab for Fish Research in Abbassa Fish Ponds. Ponds were fertilized with superphosphate and urea, and fish were fed on cattle feed, containing 12 % crude protein. Duration of the experiment was 16 weeks. Results showed that there was significant differences (p < 0.05) between (SDi and SD2) and (SD3) on body weight, length and depth, and specific growth rate of the fish. Growth performance decreased as stocking densities increased. However, there was no differences on body composition of the fish stocked at the three different rates. The fish yield increased with the increase of the stocking density. The present study indicated that, the best stocking rate of Tilapia nilotica fingerlings of 25-27 each was 4500 fish/feddan under the experimental condition.
