MONITORING THE POPULATION OF THE WASP BEETLE, CHLOROPHORUS VAR/US MULL. (COLEOPTERA: CERAM-BYCIDAE) ON PEACH AND ITS HOSTS IN EGYPT

Abstract
In Egypt, the wasp beetle, Chlorophorus varius Mull. (Coleoptera :Cerambycidae) is a serious polyphagous pest infesting fruit, wood and ornamental trees. The present survey provided the first record on 16 fruit tree species. Moreover, the rate of infestation with this pest in peach orchards was recorded allover the governorates of Egypt. The seasonal fluctuation in the population was monitored on peach trees at Giza and Alexandria governorates throughout the three successive years, 1987, 1988 and 1989. Beetles started to emerge during March -April and continued until October-November. Infestation increased more than 4 times throughout only two years. Periods of occurrence and peaks of annual broods were approximated. Beetles emergence was affected by temperature and relative humidity at the time of emergence as well as 2-3.5 months before emergence.
