Abstract
Several field experiments had been carried out to evaluate different management approaches to establish integrated bird pest management which have the least impact on ecosystems, stability and natural balance. The obtained results from the field experiments revealed that : (1) At sowing stage coated seeds with 1% Methiocarb compound gave good protection against crested lark, Galereda cristate and hooded crow, Con/us corone. The repellent effect of Cyanophos compound on seeds against these birds species differed considerably according to seed type and Cyanophos concentration. The low concentration (0.5%) on most of seeds exhibited more effect than the higher concentration (1%). (2) At ripening stage: nest destruction method seemed to be more effective as a control method, against house sparrow, Passer domestics, when it runs monthly during the breeding season- House sparrow nest destruction method reduced bird damage for different crops. The reflecting stripes proved to be protective during ripening stage of wheat, barley, sorghum, broad bean and wine grape against house sparrow and starling, Sturnus vulgaris attack. Regarding the chemical approaches, the effectiveness of Fenthion compound applied in wicked-perches, protected ripening stage of the tested crops. The rate of 1% of both Cyanophos and Methiocarb compounds protected well wheat, barley, rice, sorghum and broad bean from house sparrow and starling attack. Cyanophos application achieved higher return than Methiocarb because of the high price of Methiocarb.
